IMI History

IMI was started when the place chosen was mere a marshy piece of land. There were hardly any resident around, and Dr. Yusuf ul Omer alongwith Dr. Mir Maqbool, Prof. Late B. A. Matoo and a few other persons initiated the idea of establishing this institution. A great scholar of his time, Abdul Hassan Nadvi laid the foundation stone for this institution, and since then there was no looking back.

Over the past 33 years, IMI has grown in its stature. In the initial stage, a primary level institution was established and was raised upto high school level. The first batch of Matric passed out in the year 1991. In 1998, the institution started higher secondary classes of 10+2. The education is imparted separately to boys and girls, upto 12th standard. Presently, 1890 students are enrolled, with 250 staff members. During this period, Iqbal Memorial Trust has established following institutions of repute in Kashmir valley:

a). Iqbal Memorial Institute (secondary wing) for Boys, Srinagar.

b). Iqbal Memorial Institute (higher secondary wing) for Boys, Srinagar.

c). Iqbal Memorial Institute (secondary wing) for Girls, Srinagar.

d). Iqbal Memorial Institute (higher secondary wing) for Girls, Srinagar.

e). Iqbal Memorial Institute (secondary wing) for Boys, Anantnag.

f). Iqbal Memorial Institute (secondary wing) for Girls, Anantnag.

g). Iqbal Memorial Institute (higher secondary wing) for Boys, Anantnag.

h). Iqbal Memorial Institute (higher secondary wing) for Girls, Anantnag.
