On Thursday 28th September, 2017, the Department of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Srinagar organized a Guest Lecture on “World Rabies Day” in the auditorium of IMI (G). The teachers and students (from class 7th to 9th ) also participated in the event. The event began with the recitation of few verses from Holy Quran by class 9th students. The Inaugural Program began with brief introduction about this dreadful disease by Dr. Shanawaz.
This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Mehbooba Rasool and Dr Nissar. They stressed upon the following points:
- World Rabies Day is the first and only global day of action and awareness for rabies prevention.
- In their lecture they said that Rabies is a preventable viral disease of mammals most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal.
- Rabies can be treated with the rabies vaccine if you seek medical attention as soon as you think you might have symptoms.
- It’s up to all of us now to make elimination a reality. World Rabies Day is an opportunity to play your part and bring an end to the unnecessary suffering and death caused by rabies
After this lecture the team showed a documentary to the students on the same topic.
